Moroccan solar plants seem to be a great alternative to Russian energy for Europe following the Russia-Ukraine crisis, said “the Washington Post” on Thursday.
Morocco already has a significant solar power plant, by having the world’s second-largest solar project near Ouarzazate (Center) that generates 1,500 gigawatt-hours annually, with ambitions to add more.
According to industry analysts, there are few practical barriers to greatly expanding solar projects in Morocco, because there are vast swaths of non-agrarian lands, added the same source.
Many Moroccans active in the industry consider selling energy to Europe as a way to strengthen their own country.
Morocco had already signed in Oct. 2022 a “green partnership” with the European Union (EU) in which the latter “pledged investments in Moroccan energy projects”.
