Moroccan security services foiled more than 500 terrorist operations against Morocco since 2002, said Director of judicial police at the National Police Body (DGSN) Mohammed Dkhissi.
In an interview with magazine “Security and Life” (444th edition) issued by the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, Dkhissi stressed that the kingdom was chosen to chair the Global Forum on Counterterrorism for a third time, which reflects the growing international confidence in the effectiveness of the Moroccan strategy to combat terrorism.
The official affirmed that Morocco’s position on terrorism in general and mercenarism, in particular, is clear and firm, as it condemns all manifestations of terrorism, whatever its source or motive.
Morocco was also able to dismantle 215 terrorist groups and arrest more than 4,304 terrorists.
“Fighting extremism starts at home, and school education plays a tremendous role in spreading the values of tolerance, coexistence and harmony, and preventing all types of extremism; in addition to online and on-site measures taken to fight violent extremism, especially among young people,” Dkhissi said.
He also emphasized the role of social media in instilling ideas and principles, noting the importance of monitoring the spread of societal and international violence.
The official said that the police are intensifying the monitoring of the Internet and social media to track down extremists, as well as their sources of funding and money-laundering operations.
