According to the 2023 Smart City Index Report, by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Rabat is ranked as the 126th smartest city in the world, out of 141 cities.
Rabat scored well in the areas of mobility, human capital and activities, which include factors such as public transport, education and work opportunities, green spaces and cultural activities. However, the city’s performance was held back by its lower scores in areas such as technology.
The 2023 report’s covers data from 141 countries, with over 20,000 residents polled about living in their cities and the most pressing issues they face, such as affordable housing, traffic congestion, job creation, and green spaces.
Rabat is better ranked than other Arab capitals, such as Amman (Jordan, 135th), Tunis (Tunisia, 137th), Beirut (Lebanon, 139th) and Sanaa (Yemen, 140th).
