Building works have started on the set of the Gladiator sequel in Ouarzazate city (South-Central Morocco), British news outlet “Daily Mail” reported.
A giant arena is also under construction, and a round wooden structure was built into the dunes, similar to the Gladiator 1 amphitheater.
Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Barry Keoghan will join the sequel in January, wrote the paper.
The Ouarzazate city was chosen as the location to shoot the sequel due to its dramatic landscape.
Gladiator 1 (2000), Game of Thrones (2011-2019), Prison Break (2005-2017), and Redemption Day (2021) were also filmed in Ouarzazate.
