Spain and Morocco are launching a new phase to revive the Gibraltar Strait tunnel project which was started back in 1981 by Spain’s SECEGSA and Morocco’s SNED, said on Monday Spanish Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez Jiménez.
This came during the 43rd Moroccan-Spanish joint committee on the Gibraltar Strait Tunnel, chaired by Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka and Sánchez Jiménez.
According to a statement by the Spanish Ministry, the meeting approved and gave momentum to the studies related to this large-scale project as well as to relations between Europe and Africa.
The parties agreed on developing a work plan that would span the next 3 years and touch on feasibility study on geomechanics.
The Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, adopted by the Spanish Government, provides for 2.3 million euros to update the studies related to the project.
