Moroccans are less negative about the US seriousness in encouraging the development of democracy in the region as well as its commitment to future self-determination, according to data by global analytics and advice firm “Gallup”.
In a poll dated 2022, 21% of Moroccans agreed with the statement that the US is serious about encouraging the establishment of democratic systems in their region.
23% also believed that the US will allow people in their region to fashion their own political future as they see fit.
The data also showed that 12 other Muslim-majority nations do not believe that the US encouraged the development of democracy in their countries, nor allowed people to future self-determination.
81% of the Iranian population disagrees with the US serious commitment to establishing democracy in their country. 78% of the Tunisian population and 76% of the Turkish believe the same.
Gallup research across several Muslim-majority nations highlighted that a perceived lack of progress related to US foreign policy toward Muslim-majority nations had been a major driver in negative perceptions of the US.
Concerning the US economic commitment, Morocco is less pessimistic than the other 12 countries about the US commitment to improving the economic lot of people in their regions.
