Violence erupted in Bihar (eastern India) between Muslims and Hindus during Ramadan, which coincides with the Ram Navami religious festival, causing a strong deployment of law enforcement officers, said Al Jazeera.
The outbreak of violence caused the death of one person, while 36 others have been detained, according to Reuters.
Videos circulating online show Hindu mobs, clad in orange, approach the yard of the “Murarpur” mosque, throw stones at worshipers, and shout that Muslims should be expelled from India.
Local sources reported that a renowned Muslim school was burnt in Bihar Sharif during the holiday.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) denounced the “provocative acts of violence and vandalism” during the Hindu festival of Ram Navami in India. For his part, India’s foreign ministry accused the organization of adopting an “anti-India agenda”.
