Morocco’s Abdullah Al-Dughri qualified for the semifinals of the Otr Elkalam Quran competition in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Dughri and Hamid Al-Raisi from the UAE are the last two competitors of the World Competition for Qur’an (recitation) and Azan (announcing the call for prayers).
Semifinals qualifiers are from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Germany, and Spain, said Saudi News Agency.
Zakariya Al-Zirk from Morocco also took part in the Qur’an semifinals that started Saturday.
The competitors recite verses of the Quran before a jury composed of experts in recitation, phonetics, and maqamat (music structures).
The contest attracted 50,000 Muslim entrants from more than 100 countries.
The participants will vie for an amount of money exceeding $3.2 million.
