The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) recommended the establishment of a national model for the sustainable exploitation of mining resources in general, and of strategic and essential minerals in particular.
The Council gave this recommendation in a report entitled “strategic and critical minerals contributing to the industrial sovereignty of Morocco” in which it suggested solutions to the challenges facing the mining sector.
It also called for participatory, convergent, and transparent governance between the State, the private sector and civil society.
The council also pointed out that mining resources exploitation should take into account the needs of the future generation by reserving a portion of revenues for social investments and the environment.
The council also called for the acceleration of the strategic minerals commission’s mission and the collection of relevant and reliable data and statistics within the set deadlines to guarantee the proper functioning of this body.
