Members of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) and the Moroccan Democratic Network of Solidarity (RDMSP) held a rally, on Thursday in front of the French Embassy in Rabat, to protest against the French police’s brutality towards protestors and the arbitrary sentencing against some activists.
The French government had decided to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 as part of a controversial pension reform plan, which sparked nationwide protests.
AMDH President Aziz Ghali decried the arbitrary and unlawful police incarceration of protestors expressing their rejection of the pension reform plan in France, as well as the suppression of trade unions’ processions.
The AMDH criticized the abusive use of criminal law by the authorities to prevent protestors from taking to streets, emphasizing the absence of any constructive discourse.
The AMDH protested, in Oct. 2022 in front of the EU Delegation’s offices in Rabat, over limits put on Schengen visas, mainly from France, and called for freedom of movement, justification of rejected applications and refunds.
