A hotel worker was arrested, Sunday, for posting on social media derogatory comments on Islam and racist slurs against the Moroccan footballers, wrote “Le Figaro” Tuesday.
The waiter had recorded a video of the Moroccan players taking the Suhur (a meal eaten by Muslims before fasting from dawn to sunset in Ramadan). The clip included insults and racist, Islamophobic remarks.
The waiter faces hate crime charges, according to the Spanish police.
Morocco’s national team coach Walid Regragui forgave the man saying that the Islamic religion preaches forgiveness.
“The best example in this month of Ramadan is to forgive him, and he will understand that his ideas about Muslims are not true,” said Regragui.
The Eurostars Madrid Tower hotel officially apologized, on Monday, to Morocco and its football team.
