The Museum of Jewish Culture, located in the Jewish neighborhood of Mellah in the city of Fez, will soon open its doors for visitors, said Israel’s “i24News” on Monday.
The museum stretches over 13.000 square feet and is worth about 835.00 dollars. It is “a unique masterpiece in Africa and the Arab World”, said expert on Jewish architectural heritage, Henry Cohen.
The expert added that the Moroccan Jewish architectural identity was taken into consideration when building the museum, especially in the balconies.
Cohen said the museum will gather Jewish antiques, documents, personal effects and cultural artifacts, collected by the former janitor of the Israeli cemetery in Fez and other Moroccan Jews.
The Museum seeks to safeguard the architectural aspect of Fez as well as its cultural and spiritual heritage, including the Jewish heritage which is as a component of the Moroccan identity.
