Former Peruvian Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Rodriguez Mackay regretted the profound inconsistency that has undermined bilateral relations between Morocco and Peru.
In an article published by Peruvian media outlet “Expreso”, Rodriguez considered that the “great support” by the United States to Morocco taught a “lesson” to the Peruvian government.
He recalled that Biden’s Democrat administration followed in the footsteps of former Republican president Trump by reiterating, during Foreign minister Bourita’s recent visit to Washington, its full support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara.
Mackay pointed out that the alliance between Rabat and Washington is strengthening Morocco’s position, while his country has undermined this bond with mistrust.
Peru had cut its ties with the polisario gang in August but announced, later and in a sudden foreign policy reversal, the re-establishment of these relations.
The resumption of relations between the fake entity and Peru was among the causes behind the resignation of Miguel Anguel Rodriguez Mackay from the government of Pedro Castillo last year.
