The Eurostars Madrid Tower hotel officially apologized, on Monday, to Morocco and its football team over the racist remarks made by some hotel workers.
A waiter recorded a video of the Moroccan players taking the Suhur (a meal eaten by Muslims before fasting from dawn to sunset in Ramadan). The clip included insults and racist, Islamophobic remarks and was posted on social media.
In a statement, the hotel group extended its apologies over the unacceptable racist comments that stir hatred against foreigners.
Discrimination over race, religion or ethnicity is inadmissible, it said, adding that the said workers are not among the hotel’s regular staff and were just filling in for other employees.
The company for which that waiter is working has started disciplinary action against him, it said.
The group had contacted the Moroccan ambassador to Spain and the national football team to explain the situation and apologize once again.
