The Spanish government confirmed that it is negotiating with Morocco the management of the airspace over the Moroccan Sahara which is currently entrusted to the Canary Islands’ air traffic controllers.
The move is in line with the joint statement (point 7) signed in April 2022, when King Mohammed VI received Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
According to Spanish TV and radio corporation “RTVE”, the government representative responded, at the parliament, to a question by Senator of Canary Islands Coalition Fernando Clavijo about the transfer of the Sahara airspace management, by saying that talks are under way.
He added that the decision is meant to foster coordination, security, and technical cooperation.
