Researcher at US think tank Washington Institute for “Near East Policy” Ido Levy lauded Morocco’s counterterrorism fight and anti-violent extremism strategy as holistic and proactive.
Commenting on the recent arrests by Moroccan security services of extremist members affiliated with Daech, Levy said that Morocco has developed a great capacity to apprehend individuals imbued with radical ideologies, dismantle extremist cells, and foil terrorist attacks.
Levy also pointed out that Morocco equipped itself with the necessary means to carry out its strategy including education, religious institutions, and rehabilitation programs for terror convicts.
In this regard, the researcher shed light on the 2017 “Mussalaha” program. “The Moroccan authorities have developed programs and even games to promote the values of moderation and coexistence, especially among young people,” he stressed.
The American expert also highlighted the “solid and long-standing” counterterrorism partnership between Morocco and the United States.
