Syria and Saudi Arabia have agreed to reopen their embassies after freezing diplomatic ties for more than a decade, paving the way for Damascus’ return to the Arab fold, said Reuters.
The two governments are “currently preparing to reopen embassies post Eid al-Fitr,” a Muslim holiday of breaking the fast after Ramadan, celebrated in the second half of April.
Conversations between Riyadh and Damascus had picked up steam following a historic agreement to re-establish ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran, a key ally of President Bashar al-Assad.
The UAE has led the way in restoring ties with Assad, after receiving him in Abu Dhabi on Mar. 19.
