87% of Moroccan Youth Xenophobic Towards Sub-Saharans

87% of the Moroccan youth (-30y) dislike the increasing number and the stay of Sub-Saharans in the country, according to a survey by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship (CMC) and the Moroccan League for Human Rights (LMMDH).

The results of the survey show that only 7% of informants welcome the arrival of sub-Saharan in Morocco, while 6% refused to disclose their opinion.

53% of Moroccans, under 30, are against providing migrants with access to social services such as healthcare and education.

58% do not accept the integration of migrants as employees or contractors, or having them as neighbors.

The study revealed that 66% of Moroccans refuse the country’s status changing from a transit to a host country.

3,158 Moroccan from all over the country and abroad participated in the survey, from Feb. 16 to Mar. 3.

Lately, numerous Moroccan social media pages have engaged in racist, anti-migrant campaigns, calling for the protection of the “Moroccan race” from so-called “African settlement policies” in the Kingdom.
