Morocco requires an unequivocal position by the European Union over the Sahara issue to renew the EU-Moroccan fisheries agreement, wrote Spanish media outlet “Europa Press”.
According to the news agency, Spanish Minister of Agriculture Luis Planas said, Monday in Brussels, that he expects a positive ruling by the European Court of Justice on the EU-Morocco fisheries accord which comes to end in July.
Planas noted that, even if the deal is renewed, the fleet’s operations in Moroccan waters might be delayed for few months.
“We have always defended the legitimacy of the agreement before the EU Commission and Council, and we hope that the verdict is positive,” said the Spanish Minister.
The current 4-year EU-Morocco deal has been effective since July 18, 2019.
