President Xi Jinping landed in Moscow, on Monday morning, to meet with Russian peer Vladimir Putin and underline Beijing’s role as a potential peacemaker in the Ukraine conflict
Formal talks between the two Presidents are scheduled for Tuesday, but an informal meeting and a dinner are preceding them.
China had previously proposed itself as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine conflict in a 12-point proposal.
Putin hailed China’s proposal of mediation and claimed that he would provide Jinping with thorough “clarifications” of Russia’s standpoint.
The meeting is meant to strengthen ties between the two republics, mainly in energy partnership by boosting Russia’s exports of coal, gas and oil to China.
The agenda also includes talks on nuclear power reactors, space exploration, and new technologies.
