The Spanish government had announced that it will open a new branch of its Cervantes Institute in the southern city of Laayoune.
The announcement came in response to a written question by Senator Fernando Clavijo from the Canarian coalition.
The opening of the new center is meant to strengthen Spain’s cultural presence in Morocco.
The decision coincides with the first commemoration of Spain’s support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative in the Sahara.
