Casablanca is hosting, on March 13-17, the 46th and 17th meetings on marine pollution prevention, under the chairmanship of Minister of transport and logistics Mohammed Abdeljalil.
The scientific meeting oversees the implementation of the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, commonly called the “1972 London Convention” and its 1996 Protocol.
The event falls within the framework of technical cooperation between the Moroccan ministry and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The meeting touches on guidelines for the selection of ocean disposal sites, plans on site management and monitoring, mining waste disposal, and measures to assess the environmental effects of chemical weapon waste dumped in the sea.
