Morocco seeks to hit the figure of 5 million travelers using the High-Speed Rail (HSR) “Al Boraq” in 2023, said Head of Morocco’s Railways Office (ONCF) Mohamed Rabie Khlie.
The Al Boraq investment was efficient as shown in the positive feedback by users and all commercial and financial indicators. This prompted Morocco to plan the expansion of this project to Marrakech and Agadir cities (center of Morocco), he said at the 11th Global Congress of the International Union of Railways (UIC) in Marrakech.
The official said that profits from the HSR cover all operating costs, adding that the number of travelers who used “Al Boraq” in 2022 is 4,200,000.
ONCF’s head highlighted the fact that Al Boraq is eco-friendly as it uses 100% clean and green energy, in accordance with the Kingdom’s energy transition strategy.
