Chairperson of the International Union of Railways (UIC) Krzysztof Mamiński said, Tuesday in Marrakech, that Morocco leads African countries in terms of railways.
At the 11th edition of the UIC World Congress on high speed rails, Mamiński noted that the new transportation infrastructure in Morocco is in line with the AU 2063 plans for a more integrated and united continent.
Mamiński added that one of the vision’s aspects is to develop high-speed railway to facilitate the transport of goods and services, and the mobility of people.
He added that the aim is to strengthen the rail connection and reduce the cost of transport, in addition to decreasing pressure on the current and future transport systems.
He noted that the global high-speed rail network witnessed an increase of more than 30% from (44,000 km in 2020 to 59,000 km in 2022).
Mamiński also cited global challenges that are related to the transport systems and the decarbonization of the economy, in addition to challenges requiring new solutions related to mobility for the fight against climate change, calling on all stakeholders in the sector to be more involved in seeking innovative solutions.
