The 2019-2022 assessment report, by the World Food Program (WFP) on Algeria, stressed the grave shortcomings in the host country’s management of food aid destined to the population living in Tindouf camps.
The report by an independent team said that there is no control neither over the distribution of foodstuff nor over free access to the camps.
Aid is distributed to the entire population, not just the most vulnerable, it said. This technique is meant to inflate the figures of the Tindouf population.
The report also noted that the WFP is facing difficulties establishing solid relations with the Algerian Red Crescent which is in charge of food distribution.
The UN organization has a limited ability to ensure that humanitarian principles are respected in the camps.
The report emphasized that all interviewees were picked by the so-called “camp authorities” in an attempt to hide aid embezzlement.
