A team of archeologists dug up Jewish antiques and Documents written in Hebrew in Tata city (central Morocco) on Feb. 27 – Mar. 7, said on Tuesday the National Institute of Archaeology (INSAP).
Professor Sagheer Mabrouk and his research team are carrying out excavations at the Takadert Synagogue, as part of the Archaeology and Anthropological Research Program on Moroccan Jewish History.
The excavations at the said site resulted in major archaeological findings. According to the institute, the Hebrew documents shed light on the Jewish presence in the region and nationwide.
In 2021, the Moroccan government launched a program to restore hundreds of Jewish archaeological monuments, making Morocco the first Arab country to engage in such undertaking.
