Morocco is the best interlocutor in the western Mediterranean and is an indispensable nation in the EU Neighborhood Policy, wrote American NE Global news outlet.
NE Global said that Morocco is a strategic partner for the EU and it continues to occupy a privileged place in the political agenda of European officials.
“The diplomatic pas de deux between top officials in Rabat and Brussels’ bureaucrats has set lofty goals for the two sides, which have come on the heels of an unusual number of high-level visits”, it added, referring to the Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi’s visit to Rabat.
The series of meetings and visits helped strengthen the European-Moroccan partnership while at the same time ushering in an unparalleled deepening of the two sides’ bilateral cooperation.
Events such as the EU-Africa Summit, have taken on far more strategic importance as a result of the many instabilities that have emerged in the Maghreb and the Francophone areas of North Africa since the revolutions of the Arab Spring, it recalled.
Many European politicians are aware of the fact that Morocco has established itself as an unquestionable haven of social and economic stability in a region of the world where such claims are rare.
NE Global further said that the fuel of EU and Morocco ties is energy, migration, security, counter-terrorism, climate, and education policies, adding that the EU’s trade with Morocco already amounts to roughly €44 billion.
The green partnership that has been developed between the two parties is the first of its kind to be signed with a country that is not a member of the EU, it recalled.
