Morocco responded to Macron’s pretense regarding his country’s relationship with the Kingdom, saying that “relations between the two governments or between the Royal Palace and the Élysée are neither friendly nor good”, reported “Jeune Afrique” (JA) on Wednesday.
During a press conference following his speech on France-Africa relations on Feb. 27 at the Élysée Palace, Emanuel Macron claimed that France and Morocco have “friendly” relations and will continue to do so.
A Moroccan official source told JA that the real issues complicating the relation, such as the arbitrary restriction of visas, the media campaign and legal harassment, have been intentionally ignored.
During his speech, Macron acknowledged the tension between Morocco-France due to the Pegasus case.
The same source explained that the involvement of French media outlets and parties in the promotion of the Pegasus scandal could not be done without the intervention of the French authorities.
Consequently, the European Parliament vote was influenced by the Renew party, which is dominated by the French presidential majority and has very close relations with the Élysée.
The source disagreed with Emmanuel Macron’s statement which gave the reductive idea that the Maghreb is limited to its Diaspora residing in France.
