US computer scientist Jonathan Scott tweeted, Wednesday, that everyone remained silent when the Head of Amnesty Tech refused to meet with him while he was in Morocco.
Responding to attacks aimed at tarnishing his reputation and casting doubt on his research, Scott said that everybody backs off when they are presented with an opportunity to scientifically debate him about Pegasus Spyware. “Anyone doing that will be seen as a fraud or charlatan.”
The US researcher said that the information security gatekeepers refuse to be challenged, shame anyone that attempts to do so, and dislike being accused of affecting the privacy and safety of everyone around the world.
Scott further said that there will be an opportunity for the world to learn how to conduct mobile forensics without using plug-and-play prepackaged software, adding that Morocco’s Personal Data Protection Committee (CNDP) is leading the initiative to educate everyone. “This is what real leadership and unity through adversities looks like.”
In this context, NYC-based IT lawyer Michael Hassard wrote that, with regard to the report issued by AI and Citizen Lab, “we cannot therefore speak of a scientific concept. In forensic investigations, it is called “Junk Science””.
In a similar vein, CNDP chairperson Omar Seghrouchni responded to Hassard’s tweet saying that this is another expert’s testimony in the case. He stressed that discussions must be based on arguments and evidence, not on provocations and comments from non-specialists.
Seghrouchni added that comments by bogus specialists will not affect Morocco, and the “accusers” are expected to justify their allegations scientifically.
