Canada and the USA announced on Monday a ban on Chinese application “TikTok”, according to media reports.
The decision concerns State-owned devices and systems. All public institutions must remove TikTok from phones and systems and restrict internet traffic from reaching the corporation.
The move is explained as an attempt to protect the data of the two countries. It reflects a growing backlash against TikTok, which is owned by Chinese corporation ByteDance Ltd, over its proximity to Beijing and possession of users’ information and data.
TikTok stated that the allegations are unfounded and that the program is not being used to spy on Americans.
