Morocco’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list is a new victory, and a model of fighting illicit financing in Africa, wrote the “Diplomatic Inside” on Saturday.
FATF removed Morocco, on Friday, from the grey list that warrants increased surveillance for money laundering and terrorism financing.
According to the news website, this decision crowns the Kingdom’s proactive efforts, pursuant to the High Royal Directives, which have centered on legal, organizational, awareness, and control measures established by the different authorities and national institutions concerned.
This achievement comes at a time when many parties have attempted to tarnish Morocco’s image at the international level in recent months.
The positive decision occurred under specific conditions in which other African nations were kept or added to the FATF grey list, such as South Africa which was added for failure to comply with anti-money laundering and terrorism financing standards.
