For the 1st time, Mimouna festivities will be celebrated inside the Israeli Parliament on Apr. 12 or 13, announced on Wednesday President of the Knesset Amir Ohana.
Mimouna is a Moroccan Jewish holiday that gained popularity in Israel over the years. It is held on the last day of Passover, which also coincides with the commemoration of the passing of Rabbi Maimon Ben Youssef, who used to live in Fez.
During the evening of the celebration, Jews consume only dairy products and cookies cooked in a special method called “muffuletta.”
To highlight the cultural background of Moroccan Jews, a traditional Moroccan tent will be set up in the Knesset on the occasion. Visitors are expected to be wearing caftans and traditional clothing.
The Knesset will also welcome musical ensembles, mainly from Morocco, to perform the best songs in the Moroccan dialect, as well as local groups of Moroccan Jews.
