French President Emanuel Macron is entertaining the idea of conducting an early general legislative election, to avoid any partnership with opposition parties, writes Anne-Elisabeth Moulet in an opinion piece in “The Telegraph”.
According to Moulet, Macron’s popularity is dwindling. He is unable to establish a parliamentary majority for a variety of reasons, including the country’s main economic and social issues, such as pension reform, over-taxation, debt strangling…
In her article entitled “Macron knows he’s finished. He might just choose to resign”, Moulet expects that Marine LePen could be the future French President.
Macron is so confident about winning the 2028 elections, but what if Le Pen is re-elected? There is no way for Macron to get back to the Élysée.
According to Moulet, Macron is more engaged in foreign problems than local ones. That is clear in his lofty plans for Europe, in speeches similar to Castro’s, and in his repeated visits to Putin.
Macron defined 3 major directions for the European Union (EU), by establishing its economic, political, and military sovereignty, driven by France.
Yet all of his prior plans were dashed when the “European Tech Unicorn” died as a result of bureaucrat-adjudicated subsidies, much like the still-non-existent French Covid vaccine.
Macron’s plans are quite bigger. He is dreaming of getting the Nobel Peace Prize and Presidency of the EU, and has declared NATO braindead, said Moulet.
The French president is not aware that the EU has been revived after the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and NATO’s awakening from its hibernation, NOT thanks to France.
Maybe Elysée’s Idealist should become more realistic about his running for office, given his poor popularity and lack of useful alliances.
Macron’s options are now a lame-duck three-and-a-half-year goodbye or a flashy game of Russian roulette. “He probably lacks the guts for either,” she concluded.
