Morocco is among the African countries that are expected to have the most gas reserves and production by 2038, according to Global Energy Monitor’s (GEM) Global Oil and Gas Extraction Tracker (GOGET).
In a report on “The New Hubs of Gas Extraction in Africa”, data showed that 84% of new reserves in pre-production are located in Mozambique (2307.4 BCM), Senegal (778.7 BCM), Mauritania (574.6 BCM), Tanzania (512.5 BCM), South Africa (96.3 BCM), Ethiopia (42.5 BCM) and Morocco (39.4 BCM).
These new reserves total more than 5137.5 BCM.
The emerging players in Africa’s gas market will drive gas development volumes for more than half of Africa’s gas production by 2038, and by a third by 2030.
Historically, Nigeria, Egypt, Libya and Algeria have always been the countries with the most gas reserves and production in Africa, said the report.
GOGET is a global dataset of oil and gas resources and their development, it includes data on 421 extraction projects, with 79 fields in the preproduction stages.
