Moroccans spent 3 million euros in 2021 over Schengen Visa applications that were rejected, given that each Schengen visa application costs €80 non-refundable, Schengenvisainfo figures showed.
Statistics indicate that Moroccan nationals submitted a total of 157,100 applications to get Schengen visas in 2021, thus becoming the fifth world country with the highest number of visas lodged after Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia.
According to the same source, Morocco has the highest rejection rate, with 27.6 percent of visa applications filed in its territory, rejected by the Schengen representatives.
France is the country with the highest number of rejected visas for Moroccans, as it refused 20,369 out of the 58,310 applications received in Morocco (35%).
The number of rejected visas by Spain was also high, as the country refused 15,137 out of the 84,499 applications it received at the Spanish Embassy in Morocco (18%).
