Hungarian Minister of Justice Judit VARGA refused to meet with the PEGA committee, which is investigating the Pegasus spyware, and described it as “Brussels’ farce”.
On her Facebook page, the Minister accused the committee of serving the political aims of the European left-wing.
“They have requested a meeting with me, but as Minister for EU Affairs, I have to decline their invitation”, she said.
The minister explained that “in accordance with Article 4(2) of the Treaty on European Union, safeguarding national security remains the exclusive competence of the Member States”, a fact that indicates an expansion of the PEGA Committee’s mandate beyond the powers of the EU and the institutions.
The official confirmed the Hungarian Government’s rejection of these practices and adherence to the rule of law. “We will not endorse them by cooperating with the PEGA Committee”, added the Minister.
Varga concluded by saying “we do not wish to assist the performance of the Hungarian and European left-wing funded by Soros-dollars”.
