Morocco’s UM6P is intending to expand its investments in Israeli technologies to support the ramping up of biotechnology solutions in Africa, said news website “The Times of Israel”.
UM6P is the venture arm of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and OCP Group.
UM6P CEO Yasser Biaz stated, on the occasion of the OurCrowd Global Investor Summit in Jerusalem, that the university is looking to invest in early-stage startups in areas including biotechnology and alternative protein related to agriculture and the alternative food market sector.
“Israel is a champion in many deep-tech domains and we are currently looking into and evaluating a couple of startups in Israel,” said Biaz
Biaz added that UM6P aims to add at least four Israeli startups this year, in addition to the two investments made in 2022.
UM6P is investing in pre-series A startups and runs two funds, one of which is dedicated to deep-tech technologies and the other to digital transformation, mostly in Africa. In 2022, the company made investments in some 20 startups.
Biaz noted that the venture company is also in contact with the Israel Innovation Authority as well as the nonprofit group Start-Up Nation Central (SNC), which monitors Israel’s innovation sector.
