Many civil society organizations have launched campaigns on social networks against the visit of Emmanuel Macron to Gabon, scheduled for Mar. 1-2, 2023.
This visit, which comes as part of Macron’s participation in the “One Forest Summit”, is rejected by many civil society groups and opposition members, who called on people to hold a general strike and a Cacerolazo during the visit.
The campaign is calling for the closure of the 6th Bima military base (6th Marine Infantry Battalion, a unit of the French Army, created on Dec. 1st, 1975, and garrisoned in Libreville), the elimination of France’s inherited currency “CFA franc”, as well as the non-interference of Paris in Gabons’s internal affairs.
