Some so-called traditional democracies are weaponizing human rights in meaningless political games, said president of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) Amina Bouayach on Friday.
In a speech at Rabat World Human Rights Pre-Forum, organized by CNDH in collaboration with ICPDH, Bouayach pointed out that this event aims to renew commitment to common values to address the rapid changes that the world is undergoing, stressing that an ongoing monitoring is necessary to deal with the challenges, define priorities and implement strategies, drawing on the universality of human rights.
“We have chosen to have this dialogue in a conclave of high moral symbolism”, she added.
The CNDH president further emphasized that the so-called “emerging” countries can contribute a lot to this debate, as evidences the Global Compact on Migration, expressing her concern that no Western country has ratified the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, while “our countries voluntarily submit to the universal review”.
She also highlighted actions by the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) for the protection of migrants and their families as well as for their right to free movement.
