The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) recommended the setting up of an online fact-checking portal for official news.
The Council gave this recommendation in a report entitled “Fake news: from misinformation to reliable and available information”, in which it suggested supporting financially information verification initiatives.
The council spoke in favor of the right to access information, by suggesting to post all documents online after 24 hours of publication.
A sign system comparable to the e-thiq@ tag for e-commerce should be developed for websites that check information, according to the CESE.
The council urged supporting programs tasked with detecting fake news to limit its spread.
It emphasized the role of organizations in charge of the communication sector in raising awareness regarding the dangers of fake news.
It proposed training and media education programs for information producers, content creators and even early-age users.
