Morocco’s Forecasts and Statistics Office (HCP) stated that the Moroccan economy failed to create enough jobs for the working age group.
This came in a report on the main characteristics of the employed population in 2022, which pointed out that after an increase of 0.3 points to 39.7% between 2020 and 2021, the employment rate declined by 0.6 points to 39.1% nationally in 2022.
The number of the working age group reached approximately 400.000 people.
230.000 jobs were created in 2021, however, 24.000 jobs were lost in 2022, according to the report.
The employment rate increased by 0.2 points to 35.3% in urban areas and decreased by 1.9 points to 46.5% in rural areas.
This rate reached, in 2022, 25% for people aged 15 to 29, versus 25.4% in 2021.
The same rate for people aged 30 to 44 decreased by 0.7 points to 54.1%, against 54.8% a year earlier.
The working-age population in 2022 reached 27.5 million people, said HCP.
