Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said, Monday in Madrid, that Morocco is a top priority in Spain’s foreign policy.
Speaking at a forum by Llorente y Cuenca consulting firm, Albares said that Spanish leaders have always attributed this importance to Morocco and there is a pressing need to maintain good relations with the country.
A poor relationship with Morocco can be prejudicial to the Spanish people, he underlined during the event held ahead of Spain’s assumption of EU rotating presidency.
Spain and Morocco laid the groundwork for a new relationship based on mutual respect and refraining from unilateral acts, he said, giving the example of the drop in illegal migration rates and the increase of bilateral trade.
