The France-Morocco Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group at the French Senate said, on Monday, that it was astonished by the resolution voted by the European Parliament on the deterioration of free speech in Morocco.
The Friendship Group, chaired by Senator Christian Cambon, pointed out that, while the French authorities are making every effort to give new impetus to the French-Moroccan ties, some French Euro-deputies would rather join the ranks of Morocco’s foes.
The Group noted that these Euro-deputies are obviously using double standards when looking at human rights and press freedom in the Maghreb.
The Group reaffirmed its unconditional attachment to free speech in all countries, while expressing its will to further strengthen relations with Morocco, “our most loyal partner and ally to foster peace in the region.”
