King Mohammed VI, Chairperson of OIC-affiliated Al Quds Committee, reaffirmed Morocco’s unshakable attachment to the Palestinian issue in general and to the Al Quds question in particular, equating this steadfast position to the country’s commitment to its national cause.
In a message, read out by head of government Aziz Akhannouch, to the Conference in Support of Al Quds which opened on Sunday in Cairo, the monarch underlined that shielding the holy city constitutes one of the pillars of Morocco’s foreign policy.
The King urged the participants to pool efforts in order to protect Al Quds from all attacks seeking to alter its unique civilizational identity and legal aspect.
Systematic actions that pay no heed to international law and UN resolutions cannot contribute to establishing a climate of trust, on the contrary, they only undermine the chances for a peaceful settlement of the issue, based on the two-state solution, the sovereign warned.
Extremists on both sides are taking advantage of the stalling peace talks and creating this mounting tension in the holy city, which risks to turn into an open religious confrontation jeopardizing the whole region, the King said.
The sovereign recalled that Morocco’s Bait Mal Al Quds Agency has been, for the past 25 years, working tirelessly on the field to carry out over 200 social projects worth 65 million dollars and benefiting all social segments.
The monarch called for breaking the deadlock over the political situation, and opening future prospects full of optimism and marked with coexistence, peace, security and prosperity. He also called anew for a global alliance built on pacifism and tolerance.
The King concluded by reiterating his staunch support for the Palestinian National Authority, led by president Mahmoud Abbas.
