Algerian authorities detained, Saturday, the mother and sister of Algerian opponent Amira Bouraoui, news outlet “Algérie Part” (AP) reported.
Bouraoui’s mother, aged 70, and her sister Wafae Bouraoui were arrested at 7 p.m. and taken to the gendarmerie headquarters in Algiers.
Journalist Abdou Semmar, owner of AP, stated that Algeria began to go after families as a part of its repressive policy to threaten opponents and exiled journalists.
The elderly woman is being intimidated by the security services in revenge for Amina Bouraoui’s escape to France, he added.
