Morocco reaffirmed, on Monday, its ongoing support for the stability and the territorial integrity of Sudan.
This came in a videoconference of the 1137th meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council, in which Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita took part.
Bourita described Morocco’s participation in the meeting as “a way to express support for Sudan”, recalling that the kingdom’s presence is not for judging but for providing assistance.
The Minister recalled that this new phase started with the signature of the “political framework Agreement” on Dec.5, 2022, and the commitment of the parties, since Jan. 8, to hold talks towards a well-planned transition that would help the country move forward.
This was achievable thanks to the joint efforts by all parties concerned, as leaders, political parties, unions and associations, he said.
Bourita also lauded the efforts of the UN, the AU, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), highlighting their crucial role in preserving the Dec.5 agreement and helping Sudan overcome its political and economic challenges.
