Christophe Lecourtier, the new French ambassador in Rabat, said that the latest resolution by the European Parliament (EP) on Morocco does not implicate France.
Speaking to local media, Lecourtier distanced himself and France from the resolution on press freedom and free speech in the Kingdom.
French deputies at the European Parliament voted for the said resolution, a fact that increased tension between Rabat and Paris.
The ambassador explained that France cannot assume the responsibility of Euro-deputies’ decisions. “We are responsible only for decisions taken by the French authorities.”
“The MPs of the European Parliament are elected members from across the political spectrum. Their backgrounds and ideologies are so diverse,” he said.
The ambassador voiced the hope that the two countries work jointly on different matters such as energy, industry and the human capital.
