Morocco Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita received, on Monday, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, to discuss the Libyan situation.
Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s position on the Libyan situation, which is based on principles such as supporting Libya’s sovereignty and unity, rejecting any external interference to resolve the crisis and backing a peaceful resolution.
International assistance is needed to resolve the situation in Libya. In this scenario, the United Nations is the umbrella that can ensure the continuity of any Libyan solution.
Political prosperity hinges on legitimate elections and understanding the importance of the transitional phase, he said.
For his part, Bathaly highlighted the role of Morocco in resolving the Libyan conflict, adding that Libya needs reliable and legitimate institutions to strengthen democracy.
