US news website “Newslooks” echoed on Friday the recent visit by US Assistant Secretary of State Michel Sison to Morocco, during which the Kingdom’s status as traditional and historical ally was reaffirmed.
The US media outlet recalled the import of the US official’s statement which covered the North African country’s peace and security role in the region as well as its commitment to multilateral diplomacy.
It also underscored the meeting of Sison with foreign minister Nasser Bourita which was an occasion to reiterates the US support for the autonomy plan as a serious and realistic solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
The website drew a comparison between the burgeoning ties between the US and Morocco, and the coldness marking the French-Moroccan relations due to the ambiguous positions of France and its opportunistic policies in Africa.
It said that Paris clings to the illusion of superiority and supremacy in complete disregard for the sovereignty of nations and peoples that were, during the French colonial period, a victim of French expansionism and ambitions.
France is more biased towards the Algerian military regime which is the sole sponsor of the polisario group, suspected of terrorism. The European country is also fueling tension between the governments and peoples of the Maghreb, it said.
The website noted the huge difference between the yearly reports by the US Department of State which confirm the great efforts and constitutional gains made by Morocco, and France (through the EP) which is the first to promote baseless charges against the Kingdom and its judiciary.
