Morocco held several events to commemorate the Holocaust Remembrance Day, notably in Tangier and Casablanca.
Some of the country’s dignitaries attended the Tangier event, reported The Jerusalem Post on Saturday, recalling that a similar event was held last year at the Moshe Nahon Synagogue in Tangier.
In Casablanca, US Consul General organized Friday at the “Dar America” cultural center a conference themed “Reflecting on the past for a better future.”
In a speech, Director of Public Affairs at the same Consulate Michelle Y. Outlaw recalled how the Holocaust marked a dark period in the history of humanity and cost the lives of six million Jews.
She called for a just and inclusive society, giving the example of Morocco where the Jewish community has been living in peace for centuries.
Head of Casablanca Chabad House, Rabbi Levi Banon Loubavitch, highlighted the example of tolerance and coexistence represented by Morocco.
